Commercial Bank of Ceylon won the Mercantile A Division Knockout Hockey Tournament recently, defeating HNB by 3 goals to 1 in the final and achieving a rare feat in the history of mercantile hockey with three Commercial Bank strikers each scoring a hat trick in the three matches played by the Bank. In the final, Commercial Bank’s Anju Hewage scored all three goals for the Bank, while in the quarter final Milan Ariyawansa scored all four goals in the Bank’s 4 – nil defeat of Sampath Bank, and in the semifinal Devshan Thilanka scored three of the Bank’s 4 goals against the fancied MAS Holdings team, the Mercantile League champions.
